Combining Media Production, Alternate Reality Game Design, VR and Blockchain Integration, we create & uncover strange-but-true stories from the crypto economy.
Tell us about yourself?
In 2014 I started an independent media production company and studied digital currencies, I went on to combine the two into a blog called Bitjoin.
I set out to show the people working in the Blockchain industry through interviews and micro documentaries in an effort to present real founders stories in the new and untested field of cryptocurrencies.
In 2015 I founded Qwids, a simple solution that allowed brands to launch their own crypto based loyalty programs that rewarded users for participation in the brands story.
In 2018 I joined the Stockholm based crypto startup Chromaway as Creative Director, working with the tech team and marketing team on various communications strategies, including the launch of their relational blockchain: Chromia.
After working both for and In crypto startups and Interviewing numerous crypto startup founders in 2020 I decided to combine my experiences into my first feature film tilted The Fakefluencer. I am currently working on my second feature tilted Hexcians & The Time Value of Money, a real investigatory documentary presented within a partly fictionalised film format.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
I would advise myself to remain open when it comes to selecting a tech solution for a given idea, crypto moves very fast and there are now numerous options to implement a given solution to your startup.
I would also apply the same thinking to raising capital, there are many ways to fund your startup these days and the traditional ways for raising capital can often be the most cumbersome. Especially for young entrepreneurs just getting started.
Timing, Tech and Team is everything, learn to align and realign these three “Ts” as best you can, and you will have a better chance of succeeding.
What problem does your business solve?
It’s extremely noisy on the internet, in crypto even more so. Bitjoin Studios is a designer of experiences, utilising a multiplicity of media and technology formats, from Alternate Reality Game (ARG) design to Blockchain solutions integration. Presented via our unique story machinations and typically delivered via visual and audio medias such as film, music and games.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
When developing our first feature film, The Fakefluencer we realised that combining ARG’s, Crypto, NFT’s and other Storymaking essentials we began to see a way to cut through the noise of the internet in a way that was more playful and more affordable than traditional marketing endeavours. This inspired us to offer the same approach to other startups as an alternative solution to their marketing needs.
What is your magic sauce?
Our magic is in the way we combine the various existing Storymaking tools with new technologies to further enhance the experiences of the users.
Specifically in Crypto there is an overwhelming ideology often associated with projects that attempt to tap into the human desire to belong or fight for what they believe in Our long term magic sauce is in the experiences and adventures of our growing team, and how those experiences can translate into new and adventurous stories andIt’s why we are starting our transition towards becoming a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO) in 2022.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Starting in 2022 we are beginning our transition towards become a Studio DAO, a place for creative people to be part of a full size production, access resources, retain the long term rights to their creative works and be protected by infringements on their intellectual property.
Within the next 5 years we will take our working solution known as The Bitjoinery to a fully fledged DAO that is owned and operated by the very people that create the value. I have begun to draft the vision for the DAO here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/introduction-bitjoinery-rich-t/
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Each and everyday throws up different challenges but the most significant challenge has been working out how to scale our offering in a meaningful way that can allow us to grow exponentially.
This has been a question of timing and resources to date, and now in 2022 finally the timing is right, the next step is to attract the appropriate resources to kickstart the DAO proposal and start a new and much needed way for creatives everywhere to both own and participate in a way that provides further equity to those that create and contribute to a given project.
