Cryptotrust Fiduciaria is the first asset manager established in Uruguay focused on digital investments. We structure, manage and custody a menu of SPVs that offer different risk/reward profiles to our HNWI clients ranging from a diversified crypto portfolio targeting capital appreciation to stablecoin investments in the Defi world as part of an income strategy.
Tell us about yourself?
After working 23 years in traditional finance (for the last 14 years I have been CIO of the biggest pension fund in Uruguay) I decided to quit last September and dedicate full-time to our digital start-up I co-founded with two partners in 2017. At that time, this project was an adventure, based mainly on friends & family funding and with a lot of uncertainties in the regulatory area. Nowadays things have changed and it is clear that digital investments are more than a fashion and as a new asset class needs to be taken into consideration in the construction of an asset allocation portfolio.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
“Buy the dip”. I would have been more agressive in my personal exposure to digital assets.
What problem does your business solve?
We manage and custody diversified portfolios of digital assets offering our clients exposure to a new asset class in a reliable and proffessional way. The Defi world is a kind of far west and we offer investors exposure to optimised return strategies in descentralized finance as well as to dynamic token portfolios.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
One of the most important issues in a very low developed capital market as the uruguayan one, is the lack of investment vehicles offered to investors. Since inception Cryptotrust has been motivated to lead the development of digital assets investment in Uruguay. We never give things for granted and always try to find better ways to improve our performance.
What is your magic sauce?
Track record, professionalism, and trust should be the main drivers of all entrepreneur’s magic sauce. And we add lots of hard work!
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Continue increasing our assets under management offering a wide range menu of investment vehicles that represent diversification and different risk profiles, including a tokenization platform for real assets and a regional/global scope of clients. We want to be competitive players in the Major Leagues.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
The biggest challenge so far was to build a solid track record as a reliable digital asset manager and further on to focus on the big picture, always trying to be one step ahead of this young and volatile market.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
By offering a trustworthy investment alternative, based both on a solid track record and a well researched view of market developments and opportunities. Our target is to be seen as the digital asset manager that financial advisors would refer to in order to include crypto investments in their clients portfolios.
