Jeff Schell: Solutions to the World’s Most Pressing Problems by Leveraging the Blockchain and the Knowledge of the Crowd

MindMiner inspires solutions to the world’s most pressing problems by leveraging the blockchain and the knowledge of the crowd.

Tell us about yourself?

As a patent lawyer, I know how many people have good ideas but simply don’t know how to protect them, and have difficulty affording expensive patent lawyers to help.

I have founded several businesses myself, including a spinal implant company (Quandary Medical) and one of the leading fertility companies (Proov), which would not have succeeded without my ability to protect intellectual property at the earliest stages without breaking the bank.

I want to empower anyone with an idea to protect it, inexpensively and efficiently, like I have been able to do with my own companies.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Seek more partnerships earlier. Perfect is the enemy of good enough.

What problem does your business solve?

Many early stage founders with great ideas don’t know how to start the patent process to protect their ideas. Moreover, the patent system is expensive and difficult to navigate. Further, when a concept is patent pending, it is difficult to circulate and sell. Finally, ideas often benefit from feedback and improvements from others, yet this type of solution gathering is difficult to achieve and organize.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

I recognized the power and dramatic underutilization of the NFT concept for patent applications soon after they entered my consciousness. NFTs, in the context of IP law, relate to copyrights.

Works of authorship like digital art become automatically protected with copyright as soon as they are created. In contrast, patent protection does not automatically happen for new ideas.

A person must file a patent application for protection to apply. I saw the need to automate the process of creating a patent application for early stage founders and inventors and then apply that patent pending idea to an NFT to make ideas easier to buy and sell, just like individual works of digital art.

What is your magic sauce?

MindMiner breaks down the process of inventing so that multiple people – who may or may not know each other – can collaborate on the same problem together, from anywhere. It automates the process of assignment of invention rights and patent application generation and filing.

Once a patent application is filed, it generates a NFT so the idea can easily be bought or sold. Finally, it assigns the royalties from the sale of the NFT to a new token, which rewards contributors of solutions to problems, incentivizing the process of crowdsourced innovation.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

I want to solve climate change. And hunger. And poverty. I want to make war obsolete. I believe that the only way to solve pressing problems such as these is to leverage the collective inventive power of humanity together. I want to empower and incentivize everyone in the world to solve humanity’s biggest problems with a monumental brainstorm.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

The biggest problem I have currently is funding developers and marketing. Our beta platform is live at MindMiner.io, and Idea NFTs are now deployable on the Polygon blockchain, however I require funding to continue our development efforts.

Every item on MindMiner is also organized by groups (i.e. “Climate Change” or “Colorado”), intended to be led by social media influencers that earn IdeaCoin tokens when enough Idea NFTs are generated within their group. I need to attract those social media influencers to help share our groups and mission.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

I want people with social media followings and a personal mission to reach out to me to lead problem groups. Do you want to protect animal rights? Great, there is an animal problem group on MindMiner where you can moderate and share problems to source solutions.

Whatever your cause is, MindMiner organizes problems and solutions within that cause, and lets social media influencers set up solution contests to source Idea NFTs. The best Idea NFTs earn IdeaCoin jackpots, with a portion of those jackpots rewarding each social media influencer’s efforts.

Also, I am looking for accredited investors and blockchain developers to help us advance MindMiner.
