Ruddy is the first marketplace in the world that makes it possible for consumers to order meals in restaurants based on the calories that they want to consume, allergies and other preferences.
Today consumers pay close attention to their diet fitness and health. Ruddy’s goal is to help the growing health-conscious consumer make inform decisions in relation to their diet and health when ordering food.
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Cyrus Nejati.
I studied in Belgium and Sweden and graduated with an MBA from KuLeuven university in Belgium. After my graduation, I worked as a business and IT consultant in different international consultancy companies. There, I managed small to large projects within the banking and energy industry.
A few years ago I wanted to lose weight. Like everyone else I did my research online and downloaded some calorie count apps to track my eating habits. I soon realised that losing weight is not that simple. Dedication and motivation are not the only things that guarantee success.
My biggest issue at the time was that as a student I was eating out once or twice a day. I always had to guess how many calories I was consuming and the calorie count apps were never giving me an accurate answer. Simply because they are all using the same estimated database.
That’s when I had the idea of developing Ruddy. I thought, if I had access to the nutritional values of all the meals in my area, I can easily:
- Choose what fits my diet and goals,
- Choose from a variety of meals and have a diverse meal plan,
- Better understand my eating habits,
- Have an actual chance to reach my goals.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Start sooner.
The customers are waiting for your solution. So start as soon as possible.
What problem does your business solve?
When eating out, consumers have a hard time finding meals in their area that perfectly correspond to their diet, health and fitness.
With Ruddy they can easily find those meals that perfectly correspond to their diet preferences.
For example: if you want a vegan meal with 750 calories, Ruddy shows you all the meals in restaurants nearby that correspond to your choice
What is the inspiration behind your business?
I always thought that those who struggle with weight loss are lazy or not committed enough.
My view completely changed a few years ago when I was struggling with weight loss and had a though time getting back to my ideal weight.
That’s when I realised how hard weight loss is and started noticing the different solution for it. That’s when I came up with the idea of Ruddy.
What is your magic sauce?
Accurate data, convenience, Choices.
When people think about “healthy diet”, they always think that this means restrictions and less choices. With Ruddy, we empower consumers with choices and convenience.
We give them access to a vast variety of meals in their area that they can easily purchase without having to compromise on their diet.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Becoming a market leader in the health and food industry.
With our marketplace enhancing how businesses and customers interact with one and another.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Launching a startup on my own without funding has been the hardest thing ever.
I had to be very creative financially and also technically to develop my platforms and launch it in the market. Making sure I add value to businesses and users.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
I want consumers who take care of their health and diet to get to know Ruddy.
They should know how easy it is for them to find healthy meals in their area that correspond to their diet, calorie count, fitness and health goals using our mobile app.
At the same time I want to invite all restaurants to join our platform.
Ruddy is a great new marketing tool for them, that helps them use the latest diet and health trends to promote their menus. Unlike other platforms where they only focus on discounts and lower prices, restaurants can use Ruddy to promote their healthy meals toward the growing health-conscious consumers.
